The Smackdown Live Mid Card Division

Highlights of the division

Kevin Owens not only became the star of the show this week, but probably throughout the WWE. Only a handful of superstars laid their hands on Vince McMahon, but nobody since Stone Cold Steve Austin made the Chairman of the Board bleed in the middle of the ring. What the prizefighter just did was elevate this feud he had with Shane McMahon into a main-event level story. At this very moment, Kevin Owens is bigger than the United States and WWE Championships, based on how things have progressed. His Hell in a Cell match with Shane McMahon will probably be the most memorable match on the pay per view. The only question will remain, who will win the match?

AJ Styles retained his United States Championship in his bout against Tye Dillinger. Their match was fun and it made the Perfect 10 look like a credible challenger compared to his last title opportunity a few weeks ago, when he lost in less than three minutes. The WWE should capitalize on pushing Tye as rising contender even after this match. This division needs hungry competitors that will do what it takes to capture the US Championship. That’s also a perfect setup to the title match next week between Baron Corbin and AJ Styles. The Lone Wolf has definitely rebounded back from the horrible setback he endured last month, but he isn’t ready to dethrone the Phenomenal One for the mid-card gold.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the division.

Frustration is the name of the game when it comes to both Rusev and Dolph Ziggler. Both men were on SmackDown Live this week to let the world know the disappointment that have felt in their spot on the blue brand. It looks like the Bulgarian Brute might try to get another crack at Randy Orton, which could probably happen at Hell in a Cell next month. It’s a must-win situation for Rusev, if he doesn’t then he should be contending for any championship. As for Dolph Ziggler, his entrance skits are hilarious, but there needs to be a specific opponent he needs to target to get his point across. Everyone knows he won’t be feuding with Bayley, Naomi, Shane McMahon or even John Cena. He’ll need to vent his frustrations at someone very soon, or else his rants will be muted.

Let’s see the rankings for the division this week.
