WWE NXT: Winners and Losers for September 13
By Bryan Heaton
Who were the big winners and losers on this week’s episode of NXT?
After WWE NXT on Wednesday, there are a handful of superstars who are seeing their stock rise. Likewise, a couple of superstars look like they’ve hit a rough spot. A pro wrestler’s career is always full of peaks and valleys, but in WWE they get magnified because of the number of eyes on them at all times.
With that said, let’s take a look at some superstars on the move after NXT this week.
Winners
Johnny Gargano
When Tommaso Ciampa turned on Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, it seemed like a feud for the ages was starting. Sadly, Ciampa – who was injured heading into the match – further injured his knee. He’s going to be on the shelf for a long time. Personally, I was worried that Gargano would be negatively affected by this.
But rather than be put into a sort of holding pattern waiting for Ciampa, Johnny Wrestling has made his mark as a soon-to-be main event star in NXT. He had arguably one of the best matches of the night at TakeOver: Brooklyn III against Andrade Almas. And this week on NXT, he had another terrific match against Riddick Moss.
At present, it looks like Gargano is being primed for a Sami Zayn-like run. He takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’, as the old saying goes. If Gargano continues on the path he’s on now, he could be NXT Champion before long.
The Entire Women’s Division
With the news that Asuka is headed to Raw when she heals up, it put a big question mark on the state of the NXT Women’s Division. In case you haven’t forgotten, The Empress of Tomorrow still hasn’t lost. Ever. (In NXT, at least.)
So the division has a vacant championship at the moment. What comes next? Well, Ruby Riot, Nikki Cross, and the Iconic Duo of Peyton Royce and Billie Kay can have an amazing tag team match. Ember Moon is still hanging around – hopefully not hanging her head too much at losing to Asuka twice.
Don’t forget the announcement that Mae Young Classic winner Kairi Sane will challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver in November. Throw in the other NXT talent who shined in the MYC (hello, Abbey Laith and Sarah Logan), and the women’s division is in great shape moving forward.
Losers
The Undisputed
Okay, guys and gals, put your pitchforks away. This is NOT an indictment of the men who make up The Undisputed. I would be a fool to say that Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and Adam Cole (baybay) were anything but some of NXT’s top talent.

However, the name that has been chosen for the faction – “The Undisputed” – is beyond dumb, in my opinion. When the trio attacked Pete Dunne and Wolfgang after a phenomenal UK Title match, they declared “The Undisputed Era has begun.”
As the great George Carlin once said, “If it’s undisputed, what’s all the fighting about?” It’s just a bad choice to name the group. “Undisputed” is an adjective; it needs to describe a noun.
What are they undisputed at? I get not going with the popular fan wish of “Dishonored,” but surely someone had to have a better idea than this.
