Highlights of the division

Braun Strowman was clearly the star of the show and it wasn’t even close. When was the last time you saw any competitor manhandle both Brock Lesnar and John Cena in a span of one hour? That’s the historical importance that Braun Strowman etched his name in, which should put him as the odds on favourite to walk out No Mercy as the Universal Champion.

He lost via disqualification to John Cena but honestly, Cena looked like he had no shot of beating the Monster Among Men. Kudos to the WWE for creating a main-event level monster who’s clearly on the same level of booking as their two biggest stars in the company. There is absolutely no excuse for the WWE not to strap the Universal Championship on Braun Strowman.

Roman Reigns had a really great performance against Jason Jordan to kick off Raw. It was his promo on John Cena after the match that was very entertaining. By far, this was Reigns best performance on the mic. It seemed natural and he was clearly adding a bit more clarity to his responses. He’s correct in saying that John Cena doesn’t move the needle for the WWE anymore and he’s still trying to break into Hollywood.

In order for Reigns to being more effective on the mic, he’ll need to go below the belt. John Cena already has by mentioning Roman’s failed drug test to end off their verbal showdown. Roman will need to do a lot more research on Cena to match wits with him, or everybody will assume he won’t have a shot in winning at No Mercy.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the division…

Bray Wyatt finally wrestled a match on Raw since the beginning of July by quickly dispatching Goldust. Having Wyatt trying to scrape off the face paint on Goldust just to annoy Finn Balor was genius. It’s all alluding to the fact that Bray believes that Summerslam loss was a fluke. He’s equating that Balor turning into the Demon is nothing more but semantics for the general audience.

Many people are still agitated that Finn Balor is still feuding with Bray Wyatt after revealing his Demon persona. But also remember this, Balor has had extensive feuds with Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe for months on NXT where he showcased the Demon on numerous occasions. It’s all about adding more layers to the characters and this feud.

These are the rankings for the division this week.
