WWE: Will Sami Zayn Ever Get Pushed Into the Main Event Picture?
Out of all the misused and underutilized superstars in the WWE today, Sami Zayn is arguably the most misused and underutilized of them all. Zayn has yet to reap the benefits from being on Smackdown Live, the land of opportunity and it seems as if his opportunity might never come.
Despite being supremely gifted and talented in the ring and a fan favorite, Sami Zayn is a mere afterthought on SmackDown and has been for several months. He has seemingly never been treated with the amount of respect he deserves by the WWE and has even been the brunt of storyline-related jokes in the past.
Zayn has proven in the past he can be a valued player with his feud with Kevin Owens in 2016 that resulted in a match of the year candidate when the two fought at Battleground 2016. He fought through a lack of direction and undefined role throughout the remainder of 2016 and into the first few months of 2017.
A change from Monday Night Raw to SmackDown looked to be the break Zayn needed to finally get a serious, well-deserved push. But when it looked like Zayn was primed for just that, Jinder Mahal became victorious in a 6-Pack Challenge on SmackDown, featuring Zayn, to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship.
And the rest, as they say, is history. Zayn had a brief, minuscule feud with Baron Corbin, but has seemingly done nothing since with an even more minuscule feud with Mike Kanellis. In recent weeks, Zayn has been battling Aiden English and being booked in an even more undefined way. It has gotten to the point where one of the most talented performers in the company has been reduced to a jobber and that’s unacceptable.
One of the most talented performers in the company has been reduced to a jobber. and that’s unacceptable. Zayn is arguably the best true babyface in the WWE, and it’s easy to see the potential he could have if the company would give him the break he deserves.

Remember the Yes Movement with Daniel Bryan that took the wrestling world by storm in early 2014? Zayn could very well make a similar splash if the WWE would give him a push. While it’s impossible to predict if a Zayn push into the main event picture would turn out positive or not, we’ll never know if the company does not give him the chance.
It makes his current position even more perplexing when taking into consideration the rapid push Mahal received out of nowhere to become the WWE Champion after operating as a member of 3MB in recent years.
Will Zayn ever be a main eventer? The WWE Universe would like to think so and he clearly has all the potential and upside to do so, but it’s not up to the fans at the end of the day. If SmackDown is truly the land of opportunity, pushing Zayn into the main event picture will happen in the future.
