WWE SmackDown Rumors: Luke Harper Is Getting Repackaged
Consistently one of the most underrated workers on the roster, WWE SmackDown Live’s Luke Harper has been off television for quite some time. Is a repackaging in the works for the former Wyatt Family member?
Earlier this year, WWE SmackDown Live‘s Luke Harper turned babyface by leaving Bray Wyatt’s grip, and they told a great story of how Harper’s distrust of Randy Orton led him to abandoning Wyatt’s wicked ways. Harper always pulls out great matches, just ask his old Intercontinental Championship feud partner Dolph Ziggler, and his work with the likes of Orton and AJ Styles was immaculate.
Nowadays, Harper is in no man’s land. He should have been inserted into the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 33, as it would have made the match infinitely more interesting. Instead, since then, Harper has done nothing, as he didn’t even complete his feuds with Aiden English or Erick Rowan.
According to Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin, the WWE is planning on repackaging Harper, as stated on the latest episode of The Sheet Podcast.
We can only hope that this repackaging is more successful than Ziggler’s, whose reported change in character was made a few weeks prior to his reemergence on television. What has followed since for the “Zig Man” is a cornucopia of superstar entrance impersonations, angry promos about how the fans are fickle, and a work-shoot commentary on how those with half-assed gimmicks get a stronger push than people who are actually good at wrestling. In a sense, Ziggler’s character hasn’t changed at all.
Doing something different with Harper could be excellent, and hopefully it gives Harper the boost that he needs. The man was a brilliant performer with the Wyatt family, playing the “creepy” role perfectly. Despite being well-spoken in real life, Harper basically never spoke, instead using “crazy eyes” and bizarre yells to communicate. He always wore a heavily-stained tank top to the ring with torn-up jeans, so it will be interesting to see how his ring gear changes in this repackaging.

I wonder if Harper’s new character will cause him to be intertwined with the storyline involving “Breezango”, who have yet to identify their attackers. Apparently, the WWE’s original plan was to have Rowan, who also remains out of television, and Harper reform as a tag team and be “The Fashion Police’s” attackers.
