WWE: Bold Predictions for September 18-22

What does WWE have in store for fans this week? We take a look at some things that may take place over the next seven days.

One of my favorite pastimes as a WWE fan is to try and guess what’s going to happen in the future. I don’t go out of my way to spoil myself. But trying to get into the heads of the creative department is a good way to kill some time.

The Raw brand has a lot going on this week. We’re less than one week away from No Mercy, the next Raw-exclusive pay per view. So much of what happens on Monday will set the table for the weekend. The big matchup at No Mercy is the Universal Championship match. Challenger Braun Strowman has dominated the champ, Brock Lesnar, for the past several weeks.

This week, it’s pretty likely that the creative team will try to paint a picture of a more equally balanced match. There’s no drama if everyone just assumes that Strowman will walk all over Lesnar en route to capturing the title. Look for Brock to prevail in a physical battle on Monday night.

The other marquee matchup at No Mercy is a highly personal battle between Roman Reigns and John Cena. Reigns believes himself to be the Big Dog of WWE, but Cena isn’t going quietly into the night. To this point, their confrontations have been mostly verbal – just an errant punch here or there on the physical side of things. It wouldn’t bee too much of a stretch to say that this week on Raw, fists will fly freely between the two faces of the company.

Meanwhile, over on SmackDown Live, there’s a lot of fallout incoming from the actions of Kevin Owens last week. Chairman of the Board Vince McMahon made his first appearance on SmackDown in four years, and he brought some words for KO. In response, Owens launched a headbutt at his 72-year-old boss, busting him open.

Clearly, much of this week’s episode will revolve around that incident. Owens has already been booked in a Hell in a Cell match against Shane McMahon. Will there be further punishment for his attack on Vince? If I were a betting man, I’d say that Stephanie – still officially the commissioner of Raw – will have something to do with what’s next for Owens.

Let’s not forget the US Title scene on Tuesday nights. AJ Styles retained against Tye Dillinger last week, but Baron Corbin again involved himself in the match. Corbin has already promised to accept the US Title Open Challenge this week. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if Corbin wins. We’re still a ways away from Hell in a Cell, and it would build to a rematch there. It also opens the door for Styles to move on to different things after a successful US Championship reign.
