The Smackdown Live Tag Team Division

Highlights of the division

The Usos and the New Day will be facing each other for the tag titles inside Hell in a Cell next month. It’s fitting that the hottest rivalry in the WWE will culminate in the steel structure. It needs to end. Both teams have been dominating the title picture since May at the expense of the tag division. No other team has had any legit opportunities to challenge for the gold while these two teams have been swapping the titles. The New Day hasn’t really had a legitimate title run and they should be looked at as the favourites to retain the gold.

The Hype Bros lost another tag match, this time by the New Day. Their backstage segment after their loss was very revealing, which could lead to the team turning heel. This would be fantastic news for the division. Ryder and Rawley haven’t really stood out from the rest of the contenders for months now. Even in the babyface depth chart in the division, they are number four, right behind Gable/Benjamin, Breezango and the New Day. The Usos have been the only consistent heel team in the division while the Colons and the Ascension have completely fizzled out. The Hype Bros with a heel turn could not only stand out in the division with a heel turn but if they nab a few wins, could possibly be challenging for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the division.

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin weren’t seen on SmackDown Live this week, which was a big mistake. If the WWE can’t book these guys in a match every week, at least feature them in some backstage segments. Everybody wants to see how this newly formed team is gelling together everyday. Seeing them outside of the ring is key for the fans to start gravitating towards this contenders. Or else they’ll be known as American Alpha 2.0. And that isn’t an endearing name to be labeled at, as just a team that can wrestle with no personality what so ever.

Let’s see the rankings for the division this week.
