WWE Universal Championship Match

Brock Lesnar (c) (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Braun Strowman

Result: Brock Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman via pinfall to retain the Universal Championship

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

While Cena vs. Reigns may have been somewhat disappointing, the main event was everything you would have expected from it. It was just all attack attack attack. And it was all Braun early on, too.

About five minutes into the match, Michael Cole pointed out that Lesnar’s entire offensive output consisted of one German suplex and one right hand. Unbelievable. After Braun continued the offensive outpouring a little longer, Lesnar managed more offense in the form of a Kimura Lock. Strowman continued to battle but eventually hit the mat and forced a rope break.

Somewhat surprisingly, there wasn’t a whole lot of down time in this epic hoss fight. Both superstars just kept going at each other. Lesnar eventually hit five consecutive German suplexes before Strowman escaped to deliver a running powerslam. Even after another powerslam – making three for the match – Strowman was unable to make an immediate cover, and Lesnar kicked out.

On his third attempt, Lesnar finally hit the F5 – and scored a pinfall. It was honestly a little abrupt, but after the war that this match had been it wasn’t too surprising. It’s a little disappointing that the trigger wasn’t pulled on Strowman as champ, but he’s young and there’s still time.
