Highlights of the division

The WWE made a horrible mistake not booking Braun Strowman to win the Universal Champion at No Mercy. They had the perfect opportunity to cement a brand new main event superstar in the WWE and failed tremendously by having Lesnar retain. Now guys like Strowman and Samoa Joe have absolutely no direction on Raw because the WWE is adamant to have a part-time superstar hold on to the gold till WrestleMania. As of this moment, Braun Strowman is a drifting big man who will be booked to decimate the entire roster except for Brock Lesnar. What Strowman did on Raw by defeating Dean Ambrose and destroying both Curt Hawkins and Enzo Amore will not help in the long run. The WWE screwed up big time and will face the consequence in the next few months with nobody facing the champ because of his limited schedule.

Roman Reigns needed to win against John Cena but the way he was booked in their No Mercy match was confusing and head scratching. Making Reigns endure four Attitude Adjustments by John Cena was mind-blowing but have Reigns deliver one spear to beat the former 16 time WWE Champion was insulting. The match was booked like a farce but the right guy went over in the end. It looks like Reigns might be groomed to face Brock Lesnar in the near future, which is predictable. The reformation of the Shield will probably be the last opportunity to have the WWE book Roman as a genuine babyface and not the “mixed bag” babyface.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the division.

Finn Balor got a big win over Bray Wyatt at No Mercy but their feud is far from over. You can honestly blame that on Brock Lesnar holding on to the Universal Championship. It creates a ripple effect to the rest of the main event division, where guys have no direction after their rivalries have concluded. There is a reason why both Rollins and Ambrose are in the tag team division, no direction in the Universal title picture. Balor scored a decent win over Goldust but he’ll need bigger wins to be classified as a contender in this division.

These are the rankings for the division this week.
