WWE Rumors: Bayley Heel Turn In ‘Near Future’?
One of WWE’s most lovable characters, Bayley looked like the biggest star in the women’s division back in NXT, but a botched title run has left her character in a state of limbo.
The WWE has been chastised over the past year for their inability to properly book most “underdog” babyfaces. Although some babyfaces have found success with their characters in WWE, others have been either turned on by the fans or put in a position where they cannot be taken seriously. Bayley is one of the most talented performers in WWE, but ill-advised booking decisions damaged her character greatly this year.
Because of this, fans have been discussing a heel turn for Bayley. Most of this discussion stems from a desire to “have fun” with a potentially crazy booking decision, because it is almost impossible to envision Bayley as a heel. Both on the screen and off of it, Bayley is one of the most likable people in wrestling, and her entire character stems from being a genuine hero who people – not just children – can draw inspiration from.
The Cageside Seats rumor section contains an interesting nugget about Bayley, because there is a rumor floating around that she could turn heel “in the near future”.
Ever since Sasha Banks helped Bayley retain the Raw Women’s Championship at Fastlane to break Charlotte Flair’s pay per view streak, it was speculated that Banks would turn on Bayley, setting up a marquee feud that is a callback to their days in NXT. Instead, Bayley retained the title at WrestleMania 33, only to drop it in embarrassing fashion to Alexa Bliss at Payback before an even more disastrous showing at Extreme Rules. This all culminated in Bayley getting booed in Toronto when she was injured.
Some say that a heel turn is the best way to help Bayley progress, but it’s such a risky move. Rumors like this end up being about 50/50 to come to fruition. Even if the WWE is kicking around the idea of Bayley turning on, say, Sasha, plans have been known to change.
Asuka will be joining Raw, and she’ll most likely be a babyface. She’s too popular, and when the WWE did turn her heel in NXT, people cheered her anyway. Like AJ Styles, Asuka is just too good to root against. That might make the face vs. heel dynamic unbalanced on Raw, so maybe that’s a little more fuel to this rumor.

I highly doubt the WWE decides to turn Bayley heel, since that sounds like a “last resort” measure to me. But as we’ve come to learn, there’s always a “Plan B”.
