WWE SmackDown: Everything About Breezango Has Been A Success

Most WWE talent has a short leash when it comes to proving themselves, but what happens when that talent is given another chance and succeeds against all odds?  In the case of Breezango on WWE SmackDown, it is two superstars that have made the most of their opportunities.  If history has taught us anything, that hard work should pay off in the near future.

Before I take a look at what the future has in store for Breezango, let’s take a look at both superstars’ pasts.

Tyler Breeze is a superstar I first saw at Full Sail University when he was performing in NXT. I remember seeing the man formerly referred to as “Mike Dalton” strut out for the first time with a new gimmick and confidence that I had never before seen.  To go along with Breeze’s confidence were furry boots, sparkly entrance attire, a cell phone for “selfies”, and an announcement of his seasonal residence in Milan, Italy.  Instantly Breeze became my favorite superstar at NXT.

After over two years with his revamped gimmick in NXT, Breeze was called up to the main roster.  While the main roster was not the greener pastures as many of us expected for Breeze, it was difficult to believe that was the end of Prince Pretty.

Meanwhile, Fandango had seasoned wrestling fans laughing hysterically when he would continually walk out mid-entrance, because his name was not correctly announced.

While Fandango did score a big victory over Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29, his push would eventually slow down as well.

Following both Breeze and Fandango reaching crossroads in their careers, creative paired both superstars together on WWE SmackDown Live.  In hindsight the move was brilliant, but at the time, their chances at success as a team had to be considered a long shot.

Does that mean I lost faith in them?  No, but traditionally it is a difficult task for superstars who have lost momentum to crawl out from jobber purgatory.

While success did not come immediately for Breezango in the ring, their promos are what started to get them noticed.  The funny back and forths between Breeze and Fandango earned them a bigger platform in the way of their T.V. themed Fashion Police segments.

Whether it is “Fashion Files” or “Fashion Peaks”, it seems that whatever this hilarious duo does has the WWE Universe at the edge of their couches ready to explode into laughter.  Remember that wrestling is still entertainment, and if it wasn’t then every wrestler would perform in the same trunks and boots.  Both Breeze and Fandango are excellent entertainers who will use this strength as a way to leverage more in ring opportunities in the future.

While the similarities between Breeze and Fandango are clear, the differences between both superstars are what make them a great team.  On one hand you have Breeze the Zoolander-like narcissistic model who loves taking pictures of himself, and then on the other you have Fandango who has a deep, suave voice and dances without a shirt.

It all sounds funny when you say it out loud, but it is like any great duo.  Both Breeze and Fandango have the same purpose, but there are clear differentiating characteristics between both superstars that make them unique and not interchangeable.

While Breezango deserves credit for taking what they were given and excelling, WWE should be given credit as well.  WWE has understood that at times less is more.  Instead of overloading the WWE Universe with Breezango segments they occasionally take some weeks off.  With this WWE has kept the entertaining segments with Breezango fresh, and the demand for Breezango is higher than ever.

Proof was a little over a week ago on SmackDown.  Out of the four teams competing for a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, Breezango was by far the most popular.

So where does Breezango go from here?  When I have questions similar to this I bounce ideas off of one of my long-time wrestling friends Brandon, who gave a good comparison when comparing Breezango to The New Day.  While The New Day started out as just a comedy act, when the trio built their tag team resume they also built up their credibility as a legitimate tag team.

Breezango has reached the point where they need to start adding wins consistently to build their credibility as a legitimate threat for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.  Then at that point Breezango will be able to progress to fierce rivalries similar to what The New Day had with The Wyatt Family and The Usos.

Why not push Breezango to the next phase?  Both Breeze and Fandango have delivered above and beyond the call of duty to this point…pun intended.  And when that happens fans won’t be asking to see Breezango. They’ll be demanding it.
