5. Sin Cara

Oh, hi Sin Cara.

Opportunities have been few and far between for the high-flyer this year, so it was a surprise to see him in the ring Tuesday night. With limited screen time, all he can do is maximize his minutes. And that’s exactly what he did with an upset victory over US Champion Baron Corbin.

Being given such little time to tell a story is challenging, but Sin Cara made it interesting as the underdog. The match was over in a matter of minutes, but he played his part expertly.

The idea of Corbin vs. Sin Cara would be enough to put most people to sleep. What we expected to be a squash victory for Corbin turned out to be a fun, entertaining contest. I was glued to the TV.

Sin Cara took the offense to Corbin and looked good doing so. A count-out finish protects the champion to some degree, but it can also be a momentum-builder for Sin Cara. Is there a plan moving forward? Will Sin Cara earn a title match in the near future, or will this go down as a random loss for Corbin that makes no sense in the grander scheme of things?

Time will tell. But for now Sin Cara is rightfully one of the stars of SmackDown.
