WWE Should Take Bray Wyatt Off Television To Help Him Long-Term

Bray Wyatt may be out of WWE’s TLC pay-per-view this Sunday. But what if it’s the best thing that could happen to him?

The news of Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns being taken off this Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view due to meningitis hit WWE’s plans right in the gut. In the scramble to find replacements, we learned that Kurt Angle would be fighting alongside the Shield in Roman’s place, and Finn Balor would have to contend with AJ Styles instead of the Eater of Worlds.

Show me a wrestling fan who is truly and sincerely disappointed at Balor’s new opponent and I’ll show you tattoo artist who tucks his Hüsker Dü T-shirt in his Dockers. I’m not saying I’m happy that Bray Wyatt is sick. I’ve had meningitis. It’s painful, it’s debilitating, and it’s scary. I wouldn’t wish meningitis on anyone. I feel terrible that Wyatt is suffering through it. But I cannot help but see a silver lining in this situation. Bray Wyatt being off TV will be good for Bray Wyatt. I believe there are some real positives that could potentially benefit Wyatt’s character.

Here’s why.

He’s Dodging A Bullet

Let’s be frank: Not many people were really looking forward to Sister Braybagail fighting Pumpkin Demon Balor. The feud has been going on for way too long, it’s incredibly tedious and while their PPV matches between were fine, they weren’t exactly tearing down the house and getting us excited based on the strength of the fights alone. The fact that Bray (and Finn as well, by association) is avoiding this fight will keep away potential damage to his character. All signs pointed to the Alter-Ego Make-Up Melee (I’m trademarking that) to be cringe and corny and would have likely caused more harm than good.

Retcon Sister Abigail

WWE has the reputation on being a little… “loose” when it comes to storylines and continuity. Why not take advantage of this situation to pretend as if Sister Abigail possessing Bray Wyatt never happened.? We’ll have never actually seen Bray Wyatt possessed by the spirit of the nun/sister/aunt/child Abigail in the ring, so let’s  just “never mind” that whole thing? Better yet, keep the idea of Sister Abigail, but have another wrestler actually portray her, setting down the foundations of a new Wyatt family. Bringing old stables back is super en vogue right now.

Make Us Miss Bray

The character of Bray Wyatt has been stale since his feud with Randy Orton over the WWE title back on SmackDown Live. Creative obviously don’t know what to do with him and their lack of vision is hurting Bray Wyatt the wrestler. The lack of direction has made people bored of him. So take him off television for a while. If WWE knows what they’re doing, they would see the upside of taking Wyatt off TV for an extended period of time. Let him heal up nice and proper, let storylines advance without him, let the fans miss his presence and forget the past 4-5 months.

Then, if booked properly, Wyatt would back at an unexpected moment to make an impact, which in turn would make people go nuts. They’re glad to see him return, and he gets his heat back. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all.

Regardless of what happens, though, I hope Bray Wyatt has a speedy recovery and returns to us in tip-top shape sooner than later.
