WWE Rumors: Lio Rush Could Have Been Fired Following Emma ‘Joke’?

WWE NXT Superstar Lio Rush has a ton of heat backstage, and according to a report, backstage officials may potentially wish him his best in his future endeavours.

In case you’re out of the loop and wondering where this hatred for Lio Rush stemmed from, let me fill you in. Following the heartbreaking release of Emma, the WWE NXT Superstar took to Twitter to write a not-so-funny joke, at Emma’s expense. The joke was in reference to Asuka, and was clearly one of those ‘too soon moments’.

Before the post was taken down by Rush, he received a cascade of angry replies from his co-workers (and future co-workers) including Payton Royce, Buddy Murphy, and Bray Wyatt.

He then took to Twitter to apologise, which didn’t seem to help situation, as he then received more angry tweets from WWE stars, including a take-down from a Gentleman and an almost too cryptic message from Kevin Owens.

All in all, Rush made a big mistake. Clearly, the WWE Superstars that spoke out to (and rightfully so) defend Emma, believe in showing respect towards fellow wrestlers, so for a young “kid” to just make a mockery of the whole situation was very disrespectful.

And, according to the Wrestling Observer, backstage officials agreed. Per the report (H/T: Cageside Seats), there was talk that Rush could be released by the company. The item on CSS finishes by stating that his apology on Twitter was enough to save his job, however, there’s still a lot of heat on the guy.

In all honesty, as much I’m a fan of Emma and as much as I didn’t enjoy his awful joke, I do think it’s a step too far to fire Rush. Yes, it was stupid, and yes, it was incredibly unprofessional, but he is young. He’s 22, and I hate to use the old ‘he’s only young’, but we all make mistakes; this was one of those moments. Hopefully, the newly debuted NXT star can get over the heat and lay low on Twitter for now. The last thing anyone wants to see is someone getting fired over a silly tweet.
