2. Kurt Angle and Shane O’Mac as team Captains
We learned this week that Shane McMahon and Kurt Angle would be the respective team captains. Additionally, Raw has added stakes on the line that if they lose, Angle loses his job. I wonder what his storyline illegitimate son Jason Jordan has to say in this regard. That’s why continuity matters.
Anyway, it seems logical that these two will be leading their teams to battle. Especially since Daniel Bryan will not be cleared to compete. Shane can fill the spot in matches like this easily while the rest of the team works the majority of the match. The same can be said about Kurt Angle too. Much like they did at TLC, Angle could go on a spree during short bursts and let the rest of the team handle the more frantically paced areas of the match.
Apart from this, WWE creative has given a nice nod to Angle and Shane’s history with each other here. It’s little things like this that generate genuine buzz around a match. Though we can be assured that nobody would be suplexing anybody through a sheet of glass this time. Or would they? It seems at times like Shane is getting crazier with his spots as he gets older. Diving elbow from the top of the Hell in a Cell structure? Consider it done.
Perhaps Braun Strowman might put Shane through a table or Angle might even hit him with an Olympic Slam. We might even see Shane hit a coast-to-coast on one of the guys from Raw. But only the truly insane can imagine broke glass this time around. It was insane and dangerous the first time around. It doesn’t need to be there this time.
But like I said, seeing these two guys go at it once again after all these years has sparked genuine interest among the fans. Broke glass or not, there is a sense of urgency and electricity surrounding the Survivor Series PPV now. The brand wars angle lacks logic. But it is picking up bits and pieces on the way as creative ties together loose ends.
