The NXT Women’s Division Is Ready For An Upgrade

The next contest of the night featured Ember Moon seeking to silence the criticism of Mae Young Classic standout Mercedes Martinez. It was a solid match featuring high octane offense from both women, with Ember picking up a much needed win and some momentum heading into WarGames.

Mercedes Martinez is absolutely fantastic. Strong, experienced, with a confident grasp on who she is and what she does. There’s a reason she made it as far as she did in the MYC. Speaking of the tournament, I’d like to see more of the women from the competition get signed to NXT. The NXT Women’s division is strong but limited, as evidenced by the fact that the only fresh face in the title match at WarGames is the sensational Kairi Sane.

For the majority of 2017, this division was completely run by Asuka, Nikki Cross, Ember Moon, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. Asuka is now a part of the main roster on Monday Night RAW. In order for the NXT Women’s division to continue to grow and thrive, we need some fresh matchups.

Some notable names from the tourney that have yet to be signed to NXT include Piper Niven, Rachel Evers, Tessa Blanchard, and Candice LeRae. All would be outstanding additions to one of the best Women’s divisions in wrestling today.
