SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos (c) vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin
So this is one of the obvious ones. When Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable were paired up last August, most assumed that it would only be a matter of time before the duo got a title shot. Gable and Benjamin, both two time former tag titlists, are two guys who know how to be successful in a tag team and it’s shown so far. Since joining, the team has had televised wins over The Ascension, The Hype Bros, Breezango, and The New Day. The success led to a title match against The Usos on the November 7th episode of SmackDown Live where they were victorious, albeit by count-out. They deserve a rematch.
Now, a match between these two teams could be very interesting. The Usos have never been better. Since their heel turn last September, Jimmy and Jey have been on a tear, snatching up three more tag team championships. Their in-ring stuff has been so good that slowly but surely, the crowd is starting to get behind them. On the flip-side, Gable and Benjamin seem like they’re poised for a heel turn. Their nature in and out of the ring has been on the heel side, culminating with the aforementioned count out victory over the champs, only facilitated by Gable’s dirty knee shot on Jimmy. This has all the classic makings of a double turn.
This could be a placeholder type feud for The Usos. As hot as they are now, especially after their victory over Sheamus and Cesaro at Survivor Series, means that they’ll most likely not drop the belts here. But the feud and match should be outstanding and a good way to make both squads look strong.
