WWE: Could TJP’s Campaign To Win The IC Title Be Successful?

T.J. Perkins, as he was known then, was the inaugural Cruiserweight champion as the winner of the Cruiserweight Classic last summer. Since then, though, TJP has become an afterthought on WWE’s 205 Live.

To start this off, I want to say that I enjoy TJP’s work. Like many others, I cheered when he won the Cruiserweight Classic. After watching him in TNA/Impact wrestling as Suicide, and then as Manik, I was happy to see him make the jump to WWE; he was deserving of the opportunity.

Not too long after the high point in his career, WWE seemed to lose faith in the charismatic superstar and put the title on veteran Brian Kendrick. Since losing the title, TJP hasn’t even sniffed the belt. He was sent back down the card and lost in the shuffle. He was also promised a title shot when he paired up with Neville, but nothing ever came of it after he lost that title match to Neville on 205 Live.

Recently WWE Superstar Emma was released, and while it was baffling to fans, especially since she had just wrestled Asuka in The Empress of Tomorrow’s debut match at the TLC PPV. Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported the reason Emma was released was due to her actions on Twitter.

The writing staff was unhappy that she started her hashtag that got wildly over with the fanbase, which seemed to annoy the writing team, to the point they didn’t want to write for her. Emma did other things to pester the writing staff, but her #GiveEmmaAChance campaign on Twitter didn’t earn her any favor with them.

I bring that up because now, TJP has done the same thing, and once again, fans have jumped on the opportunity to see one of their favorite wrestlers getting pushed.

If the WWE writers didn’t like Emma making her hashtag, I doubt they’re going to enjoy TJP making his. So, seeing him get a chance at any title would be surprising.

About a month ago, WWE Superstar Neville walked away from WWE before an episode of Raw and took the WWE Universe by storm. While it’s still unclear why he left exactly, or if WWE is trying to work things out with one of their most popular, and talented superstars, one can imagine why Neville walked away.

He was the Cruiserweight champion for many months and was the focal point of 205 Live. However, the King of Cruiserweights reportedly wanted out of 205 Live and onto the main roster to vie for the big titles, and WWE wanted to keep him in the Cruiserweight Division, which could be a big reason why he walked.

If Vince wasn’t wiling to push Neville beyond 205 Live, why would the WWE bring TJP onto the main roster and give him the Intercontinental Championship? Apparently they don’t even have enough faith in TJP to give him the Cruiserweight gold again.

It’s a nice idea, and anything can happen in WWE, hence the “probably” in the title. But it just doesn’t seem very likely, with apologies to all his fans. TJP will probably be stuck in 205 Live limbo for the rest of his career, and that might be a shame.
