WWE Royal Rumble 2018: Is It Time For A Women’s Royal Rumble?

There are now over 20 women on the main roster in WWE, which means the women’s division has a real possibility of having a Royal Rumble match this year.

The Women’s Revolution turned Evolution is now in full force in WWE. Women are making history left and right on both brands, and the WWE has no plans of slowing this down.

Whether it’s main eventing a PPV, having the fist Hell in a Cell match, having the first Money in the Bank match, taking part in intergender matches, or even simply changing from being Divas to Superstars, the women of WWE are completely recreating the image of women’s wrestling.

After firsts in both the Hell in a Cell and Money in the Bank matches, it is only logical that the next step would be to conquer the other big matches. This has led to a lot of talk of potentially having a women’s Elimination Chamber match and even a women’s Royal Rumble match in the near future.

Now, with the the trios of Paige, Mandy Rose, and Sonya Deville and Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan showing up on Raw and SmackDown Live, the women’s divisions on both brands are thriving and filled with talent.

The addition of those six women bumps WWE’s total amount of women officially listed on the main roster up to 29. Of course, that list consists of non-performers like Renee Young, so there are a little over 20 active female performers on the roster.

That is a perfect amount for a women’s Royal Rumble match. A 15 or 20-women Royal Rumble match would raise the importance of both the Royal Rumble PPV and the women’s division in WWE.

Also, this would open up a lot of creative avenues for WWE to venture down. This could be a platform for Asuka to display her dominance, tease a Four Horsewomen formation, or spark new rivalries on the Road to WrestleMania.

We could also see surprise appearances that come with the unpredictability of the Royal Rumble match. Former talents like Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, or even Lita could make a one off appearance for the match.

This could also be an opportunity for either one of the Bella twins to get back in the ring, which they are looking to do in 2018.

Of course, it could also be a platform for the debuts of women, especially from NXT. It could also be a memorable way to debut Ronda Rousey, while also hiding how green she might be in the ring. We could even see Raw Commissioner, Stephanie McMahon, appear in the match, too!

Last year, both Women’s Championships were contested in multiwomen matches at WrestleMania. However, the women’s division has grown in both numbers and importance since then and deserves a marquee one on one match at this year’s WrestleMania.

Hopefully, a history making women’s Royal Rumble match will be able to provide that matchup for WrestleMania 34.
