3. AJ Styles vs. Brock Lesnar (Survivor Series 2017)

Styles vs. Lesnar spawned seemingly out of thin air. It always felt like a match that would be so great, but would likely never happened.

The original plan for Survivor Series was for Lesnar to face Jinder Mahal. That potential showdown did anything but wet the appetite of the WWE universe. So when Styles dethroned Mahal to become the new champion, fans were understandably excited.

Styles’ track record as the best wrestler in the company was well known, as was Lesnar’s reputation for being an absolute beast. When Styles first arrived in the company, this match was at the top of many people’s dream cards.

The match was the best one Lesnar’s had since his WWE return. It wasn’t the standard suplex, suplex, suplex repeat kind of affair. Styles got his offense in, and there was a legitimate chance he was going to defeat Lesnar.

When Styles had Lesnar trapped in the Calf Crusher, it really locked like he was going to tap out. An eventual Phenomenal Forearm attempt led to Lesnar drilling Styles with an F-5, which ended the dream match.

Despite it not being a standard Lesnar suplex-fest, when he did throw Styles around, it was with vehement force. Styles’ selling job in this match was a great reminder of just how talented he really is.

Although Lesnar came out on top after one F-5, the performance he and Styles were able to put together was truly remarkable. Moving forward, the company should know it has this match in its back pocket.
