3. Aiden English and Rusev Shock The World
This would be something, wouldn’t it? In a match that includes two of the best tag teams in WWE history in The Usos and The New Day, and two tremendous tag team workers in Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable, to see the somewhat newly formed Rusev and English walk out with the straps would definitely be near the top of the 2017 list for biggest shockers.
After qualifying for the match with a clean pin over The New Day on December 5th, the duo does seem to be on a bit of a roll which includes a victory over the current champs, The Usos, on the go-home SmackDown. Now, that much success right before the event normally spells a loss for the superstar(s) on the winning streak. So obviously that’s not good news for Rusev and English, but maybe something else is going on here. Since the tandem doesn’t have the credentials their opponents do, maybe this was the WWE’s way building the team up for a big run as champs. And why not? Their act seems to get better as the weeks go on and the crowd seems to be enjoying the shtick, even if its in a laughing at you, not with you, type way.
Add in the fact that these guys aren’t just a couple of pushovers and it makes their odds even better. English is a former NXT Tag Team champion and a high potential type guy. And Rusev is a two-time United States champ with victories on his resume over the likes of John Cena, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns. So maybe winning this match might not be a complete shock, but it would certainly throw the blue brand’s tag team division into complete disarray. Something that could end up being a lot of fun.
