SmackDown Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way: The Usos (c) vs The New Day vs Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs Aiden English & Rusev
Like I always say, when it comes to matches involving more than three superstars or three tag teams, the best way to try and figure out who’s going to win is to first determine who will not win. Then, all you have to do is pick from what’s left. So on that note, let’s start with The New Day. As good as they’ve been for the two-plus years, and as amazing as their back and forth, title-swapping feud with the champs was, Sunday will not be their night. It just doesn’t make sense. For a baby face tag team to not be able to get the job one on one, how would winning in a fatal 4-way make them look? Not great. So they’re out.
Then there’s Gable and Benjamin. For two pretty talented guys, this tag team really hasn’t had much fanfare. And considering that Benjamin nearly balked at the idea of teaming Gable when it was presented by Daniel Bryan back in August, it doesn’t appear that this duo will have a long future. So they’re out. What about English and Rusev? As much as they’ve been improving as far as popularity in the past month, these guys aren’t ready to win a match that includes two of the best teams in WWE history. As much as there is a small inkling that wants to predict the upset, I just can’t. They’re out.
And that leaves us with the champs. There is just no reason to take the straps of Jimmy and Jey right now. The last 15 months have been the best stuff the brothers have done in the seven years they’ve been with the WWE. Look for The Usos to retain and go on to feud with The Bludgeon Brothers, a team they had a scintillating 2014 feud with over the WWE tag titles.
Winners and still champions: The Usos
