United States Championship Triple Threat Match: Baron Corbin (c) vs Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler

This matchup is really a head-scratcher. So we have Corbin, fresh off the biggest wins of his career over AJ Styles and Tye Dillinger at Hell In a Cell in October and then Styles alone on the following episode of SmackDown. He’d then follow that up by slapping Sin Cara around a couple of times before running into Bobby Roode. Roode, only on the main roster since August is just coming out of a shockingly terrible feud with Dolph Ziggler that saw him defeat “The Show-Off” two out of three times on television. One might think that coming out on top in a program against a former two-time world champion would entitle Roode to a one on one match with Corbin, but oh no, Ziggler, for some crazy reason, gets the nod too.

It’s pretty frustrating to see booking like this. Nonsensical too. Roode and Corbin, although not exactly an earth shattering pairing, would be just fine taking each other on Sunday. Ziggler’s inclusion is for one reason and one reason, only. And that’s to take the pin from the eventual winner of this match.

But who will that winner be? Corbin’s title reign is young and it seems like the company is fond of him. Because of that, I highly doubt his very first title run will be halted at just 70 days, although it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility. Roode’s a true legend of the sport and at 40 years old may need to start winning more titles quickly if he wants to have a legacy near that of his in TNA. It’s a bit of a toss up between Roode and Corbin but I’m going with the champ. Corbin wins by pinning Ziggler and Roode gets a one on one rematch at the Royal Rumble where he’ll make good.

Winner and still champion: Baron Corbin
