WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs Jinder Mahal
It’ll be interesting to see how the order of the match card plays out Sunday night. It might tell a lot about what’s going to happen. For instance, if Styles and Mahal don’t main event the show, that’ll mean the Nakamura/Orton vs Zayn/Owens match will, and if that’s the case, expect something very important to happen in that match. But if the championship match is in fact the main event, the McMahon/Bryan saga will play out even further and most likely come to a conclusion at the Royal Rumble. It’s a conundrum. But considering that I think something important will happen in that tag match, coupled with the fact that Mahal should never be anywhere near a PPV main event ever again, I’m going with this match not closing the show.
Another thing that needs to be considered is just what degree the WWE will go to annoy its fans. Because if “The Maharaja” walks out of Boston with that belt, it may be one of the biggest travesties in the history of professional wrestling. Nothing against Mahal personally. He got himself in terrific shape and got a chance to be the top guy for awhile. The problem is that Mahal’s 170 day title reign was one of the abysmal, boring, and ludicrous runs in the history of this belt. So when he lost it to one of the most popular wrestlers the industry has ever seen when Styles took it from him on November 7th, all was right with the wrestling world again.
I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that the WWE wants to keep as many fans as possible and as such, Styles will retain. And not only that, we can all hope and pray that this title run for “The Phenomenal One” leads down a path to square off with Nakamura at Wrestlemania.
Winner: AJ Styles
