WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c) v. Jinder Mahal

This was the toughest decision for me to make.  Having been an AJ Styles fan since his time during the dying days of WCW, I didn’t want to pick against him.  But then I did my best to get into the mind of Vince McMahon.  It has always been said about Vince that he values loyalty at the highest level.  Now that may not make sense when looking at this match tonight.  But my choosing Mahal to upset AJ isn’t about tonight, it’s about WrestleMania.

There is a guy, you may know him, you can’t see him, but he’s there.  No, not Santa Clause, John Cena.  Cena has been the face of the company for over a decade now and still represents the WWE with class.  Even when he may not be on tv weekly, he is off doing Make A Wish visits and represents the company at press events around the world.  So what better way to repay him than giving him the new record of 17 world championships at WrestleMania.

Now again, you may say, why does it have to be Mahal?  Well, again that falls on the shoulders of Vince wanting to book his American hero against a foreign villain.  It is very 1985, and Cena is the modern day Hogan, but it’s also an easy story to tell.  So as much as I’d love Styles to hold until Mania, I can also see McMahon wanting to start planting the seeds for his favorite grappler.
