WWE: Did Kurt Angle Just Confirm A Jason Jordan Heel Turn?

Jason Jordan has been getting heat as a babyface ever since he was announced as Kurt Angle’s son, but it all seems like a master plan to turn the former American Alpha member heel.

When Raw GM Kurt Angle wept and announced that the secret he was hiding was that Jason Jordan, who competed on SmackDown Live in a tag team with Chad Gable, was his son, the fans immediately turned on the storyline. The whole notion of it was impossible to believe, and Jordan has only generated more heat since.

Angle appeared on CBS Sports’s “In This Corner” podcast, and he spoke candidly about the storyline involving Jordan.

"“Everything that has occurred up until now, Vince [McMahon] already knew how they were going to react, so this has been working. As many fans will say ‘it’s not working’ and ‘get rid of him’ or ‘I’m not buying it,’ now that the storyline has started to span out and developing further, it was a good fit. Jason is doing a great job, and he has carried the storyline very well. We will see where it goes from here but it should be pretty intriguing.”"

This is noteworthy, because Angle is essentially confirming that the end goal is to turn Jordan heel. Of course, many people saw this coming from a mile away, and Angle mentioned earlier in the interview that the fans are criticizing Jordan for getting “the wrong kind of heat”. The fact that Angle says this heat is intended indicates that a Jordan heel turn could be on the horizon.

Vince McMahon gets criticized frequently for being out of touch or for not being able to read the crowd, but the more you hear from people who work in WWE, the more you start to realize that he still has the pulse of the fanbase. Although he mis-read Bayley badly, it sounds like he’s pulling the right strings with this Jordan/Angle storyline, and he also once gave some wise advice to Sami Zayn after his heel turn.

On an episode of Raw in Los Angeles, Jordan received the most heat of anybody on the roster, and he has certainly played the role of spoiled son quite well. When he called his father “Kurt”, it all but confirmed to me that this is the direction they were headed, because he would also use words like “deserved” frequently in his promos. Jordan has been begging for matches from his father despite all of his losses, and it might simply be a question of “when” – and not “if” – we’ll be getting a Jason Jordan heel turn.

As Angle seemed to indicate, I firmly believe Vince’s plan from the start was to push Jordan as a heel.
