12. Payback
Payback 2017 was in a strange predicament from the get-go. The event had to blend together Raw superstars that were going from Raw to SmackDown or vice versa in the superstar shakeup.
The event had a few matches that were well-executed, such as Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship, The Hardy Boyz vs. The Bar, Samoa Joe vs. Seth Rollins, and Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns. There was quality within this pay-per-view, but there was also a lack of quality in places as well.
Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson didn’t accomplish much, but the most bizarre match of the night was the first-ever House of Horrors match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt. This match turned out to be borderline disastrous and way too gimmicky.
And to top off the nonsensical trend of the match, it wasn’t even for the WWE Championship, which Wyatt lost to Orton at WrestleMania 33 and never got a rematch for. There wasn’t much bad to be found with this event, but the bad that was found was excessively bad. House of Horrors just soured the entire event for most fans.
Despite a bad blunder, Payback was a decent enough pay-per-view that served its purpose well at times.
