11. Elimination Chamber
SmackDown’s final pay-per-view leading into WrestleMania 33 was Elimination Chamber. The event centered around the key Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship, but failed to give enough other matches attention in the buildup to the event.
There were really only three matches that could be taken away from this event as being noteworthy, but one, in particular, was very good. Becky Lynch and Mickie James had a solid match, Randy Orton and Luke Harper had a way better than expected encounter, and the Elimination Chamber match that saw Bray Wyatt win his first WWE Championship was very good.
However, other matches weren’t nearly on the same level. Apollo Crews and Kalisto vs. Dolph Ziggler in a handicap match, the tag team turmoil match, and Nikki Bella vs. Natalya didn’t do much and are viewed, as a whole, as underwhelming matches.
The event did a good enough job of making a three-hour pay-per-view seem entertaining, but there was a bit too much filler for one’s liking. And leading into WrestleMania 33 as the last pay-per-view for SmackDown to showcase itself, that wasn’t what needed to happen.
Elimination Chamber 2017 had a few standout matches that helped make what would have been a subpar pay-per-view a decent enough show.
