It’s no secret that Rusev is one of the most popular superstars in the WWE today, and he has the merchandise sales to back it up.
If you go to Shop.WWE.com, you’ll see that Rusev has just one shirt available. But that single shirt is the best-selling piece of merchandise on the WWE Shop, according to an article from WrestlingNews.Co’s Corey Jacobs.
The “Rusev Day” shirt commemorates “Rusev Day”, which is the single greatest holiday known the man. But don’t worry, you don’t need to mark your calendar, because everyday is Rusev Day.
Rusev has been getting massive pops on SmackDown Live lately, and the fact that he is reportedly out-selling AJ Styles and The Shield (among others) on the WWE Shop is a huge deal. It also supports the overwhelmingly positive reactions he’s been getting in arenas lately.
The WWE Universe has been calling for a Rusev face turn for months, and the WWE had a perfect opportunity to do this when he was returning from his injury to debut on SmackDown Live. Rusev even demanded a WWE Championship opportunity against Aiden English at Money in the Bank. Instead, Rusev’s return involved a feud with John Cena, and it was a classic foreign heel vs. pro-American babyface feud around the 4th of July.
With Aiden English as his tag team partner, Rusev is doing incredible work, but that’s no surprise. Regardless of how awful the storyline, Rusev always entertains the fans, as he was the only person to come out of the Lana/Dolph Ziggler/Summer Rae love storyline looking somewhat OK.
We’ll see if Rusev can continue to top the charts with this “Rusev Day” shirt, which proclaims “Happy Rusev Day” in print on top of a picture of the Bulgarian flag. Hopefully, the fact that this shirt is the top seller opens the WWE’s eyes and allows Rusev a chance to turn face, winning the SmackDown Tag Team Titles in the future.

There’s little doubt in my mind that Rusev is WWE Championship material, and maybe the WWE will put the strap on him at some point in the future.
