The WWE had a very interesting year in terms of its champions in 2017 with many new champions and familiar champions at the same time.

In 2017, the WWE shook things up with its champions no matter which belt was being focused on.  Some of the shake ups were taken positively by the WWE universe, but others weren’t so lucky and are viewed as failures.

Regardless of certain opinions, the WWE put forth some outstanding championship matches in 2017 from the women’s titles to the tag team titles all the way up to the world titles.  Let’s take a look at the best champion for each of WWE’s nine main roster championships in 2017.

Cruiserweight Championship: Neville

Arguably no superstar in the WWE had as much of an up and down year than Neville had.  The King of the Cruiserweights had a breakthrough year in 2017 as a heel that carried 205 Live on his back for months.

Neville had several standout matches in 2017 with the likes of Austin Aries, Akira Tozawa, Cedric Alexander, and others while carrying the Cruiserweight Championship with pride for much of the year.  However, a new addition to 205 Live changed the course of the division and Neville’s career.

Enzo Amore’s addition to 205 Live in late summer gave the division needed star power, but it came at the price of the division’s top superstar.  Allegedly being frustrated with his direction, Neville walked out of the WWE and hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since mid-October.  There’s still no clear idea if the King of the Cruiserweights will return or not.

With how Aries and Neville both have left the WWE in recent months due to frustrations regarding their position, that should open the eyes of the WWE.  But regardless if Neville returns or not, that doesn’t take away the banner year he had in 2017 in what turned out to be a breakthrough year for the underutilized superstar.

The King of the Cruiserweights is undoubtedly the best champion the Cruiserweight Championship saw in 2017 and would be a very welcomed re-addition to the 205 Live roster in the future.
