Report: Enzo Amore Wanted To Work WWE Raw While Sick
Enzo Amore was supposed to face Cedric Alexander in a match for the Cruiserweight Championship on WWE Raw, but an illness prevented him from appearing on the show at all.
There’s a belief among the WWE Universe that Enzo Amore isn’t a real professional wrestler or doesn’t take pro wrestling seriously, and this image has been cultivated by reports that Enzo is difficult to work with backstage. He apparently gets heat for not showing enough respect to the business, and the WWE acknowledged this heat at one point by addressing the rumors on the Network’s Bring It To The Table show.
Enzo is arguably the worst worker on the main roster, and he needs to be carried during most of his matches. But at the same time, he is the Cruiserweight Champion, and his presence has helped 205 Live. The storylines surrounding the “Zo Train” are interesting, particularly as Enzo gets more desperate, more violent, more unstable, and less willing to trust those around him.
In the world of WWE, Enzo has a lot on his plate as champion, and he has Cedric Alexander breathing down his neck. He was supposed to defend his title against Alexander last night on Raw, but real life got in the way and Alexander would have to fight in a tag match instead of achieving his goal of being champ.
Due to an illness, Enzo was not on the show and was unable to compete in his match against Alexander. He was, in fact, hospitalized. PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that Enzo actually checked himself out of the emergency room and traveled to the arena to tell people backstage that he wanted to compete. WWE officials told him that they couldn’t grant his request, since he cannot compete while being sick.
The fact that the WWE officials prevented Enzo from competing isn’t noteworthy, because it makes sense for them to not want an illness floating around in their locker room. After all, illnesses altered a pay per view only months ago.

However, the fact that Enzo pushed to compete despite being extremely sick is noteworthy, because it goes against the perception that many fans have of Enzo. If he were so disrespectful and cared so little about wrestling, why would he do this? It seems to me like he was concerned about the fans missing out on a big match – and potentially Alexander missing out on a big moment in his career.
