The Golden Star: Kota Ibushi

Kota Ibushi is one of the best wrestlers in the world today.  Not only for his in-ring talent but also his business sense. Ibushi may go down as one of the greatest freelance wrestlers ever.  Ibushi has done well to make his name in promotions all over the world but not get tied down to a single company.

In recent history, he has worked for the WWE, Ring of Honor, DDT and NJPW.  Having great matches under each banner and moving onto his next stop.  His match against Cedric Alexander at the Cruiserweight Classic is credited for getting Alexander signed with the WWE.

Ibushi has been having great match after great match since his return to NJPW.  Battles with Tanahashi, Naito, and Sabre have given Ibushi a banner 2017.  Kota will be looking to take 2018 to the next level with his battle against Cody.

The only fear I have for Ibushi is due to his freelance business model. With his desire to not be tied to a contract he may not get the big wins that allow him to become a champion. But if Ibushi keeps having the matches he’s known for, contracts may not matter.
