As we enter into the new year, who are some WWE superstars who could win their first world title? Do we have another Jinder Mahal in store?

The WWE world heavyweight championship is the pinnacle of wrestling immortality. Holding the title cements you in history alongside Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Triple H, the Undertaker John Cena and … uhhh … Jinder Mahal.

Discussing superstars who haven’t won the title but are deserving of so sparks a debate. Why didn’t legends such as Mr. Perfect, Ricky Steamboat or Jake “The Snake” Roberts hold a world title? More recently, why didn’t MVP – a superstar with the “franchise player” gimmick – hold a world championship? Why didn’t the WWE maximize the Nexus’ potential by putting the belt on leader Wade Barrett? Why couldn’t they give a world title to a talented legacy in Cody Rhodes?

As we enter 2018, the WWE world title picture looks interesting and promising for both brands. On Raw, Brock Lesnar could potentially lose his title at WrestleMania. Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman – two guys who have been pushed to the moon – could be contenders for a WrestleMania showdown with the Beast. On SmackDown, newly crowned champion AJ Styles is done with Jinder Mahal. He could face off against two of WWE’s hottest heels Sami Zayn or Kevin Owens. He could also be in line for a “face vs. face” showdown against Shinsuke Nakamara.

Jinder Mahal shocked the world when we won his first world title. Who are some superstars who could capture their first world title in 2018? Are there any surprises in store?
