2. Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable Growing as Heel Tag Team

SmackDown’s tag team division has been in a great place as of late with many teams standing out.  And one team that has made its presence felt is the team of Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable.

The two super-athletes have proven to be a valuable commodity among a stacked tag team division on Tuesday nights, but one knock on them has been their characters don’t stand out.  With teams like The Usos, The New Day, and Rusev Day, characters are everything.  But last night was a step in the right direction for Benjamin and Gable.

After a controversial, yet fair, loss to The Usos the week before, Benjamin and Gable voiced their displeasures.  They took shots at the crowd, the officials, and GM Daniel Bryan who made his way to the ring with them.  This led to a match being made at the Royal Rumble between The Usos and Benjamin and Gable in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

Benjamin and Gable have been meant to be heels, but weren’t up to par with other heels on the roster.  But finally, it appears as if they are growing as heels and starting to stand out character-wise.  This is a great sign for the future of the team because with how many talented and character-strong teams there are on the blue brand, it’s crucial that you stand out.

The in-ring abilities of Benjamin and Gable are undeniable, but now their characters are starting to take shape.
