Bobby Lashley’s Impact Career Potentially Over, WWE Career Resuming?

At last night’s Impact Wrestling TV taping, Bobby Lashley waved his goodbyes, implying he’s leaving the company. Is a WWE return in the cards?

If you were in attendance for Impact Wrestling last night, you’d sure think Bobby Lashley has one foot out the door. And according to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, you’d be right in thinking that. Pro Wrestling Sheet was “told” that Lashley appears to be finished with Impact.

His exit doesn’t seem like to much of a surprise, given EC3’s departure from the company – he left the night before Lashley at a separate taping – as well as the former WWE US champion ‘doing the job’ on his way out, losing to recently signed Impact star Brian Cage.

Per Pro Wrestling Sheet’s report, the 41-year-old’s contract with Impact was set to expire before the next taping in April. And given that Lashley most likely won’t be re-signing, Impact creative have written him out of storylines. But as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens; and this time around, WWE might just come knocking.

To give you context, Lashley was released from his WWE contract in early February of 2008, following a six-month injury. However, just three years earlier, he made his WWE debut. Realistically, his time in WWE was short, but nevertheless, he showed real potential to be a main event guy (at least in small doses).

If you cast your mind back to ‘Vengeance: Night of Champions’ 2007, you’ll remember that Lashley was heavily featured in a main event spot – fighting it out against Mick Foley, Randy Orton, King Booker and John Cena for the WWE Championship. “The Real Deal” lost the match at ‘Vengeance’ but would go on to win a”Beat the Clock” challenge on Raw, pitching a match against Cena at the following PPV, ‘The Great American Bash’. This would turn out to be Lashley’s final WWE PPV appearance.

The match ended in a likely Cena win, but the two shook hands following the bout in a sign of respect, as well as a sign of Lashley moving on to bigger things down the line. Sadly, that was not the case.

After a few stints around the Indies, a move to Impact, a move back to the Indies, and finally, another move back to Impact (with a few MMA fights thrown in for good measure), it looked as if Lashley’s wrestling career had hit its peak. And for all intents and purposes, it may well have.

But given the former WWE Superstar’s name and size, we may just see “The Dominator” on WWE TV in the not so distant future, with McMahon always keen on bringing back former stars even just for nostalgia purposes. And given that Vince and Lashley shared the ring at WrestleMania, albeit involving McMahon having his hair shaved, you’d have to think that the WWE chairman wouldn’t mind having another talented, jacked, six-foot wrestler on his roster.
