2. AJ Styles

The WWE Championship will be at stake at the Royal Rumble with AJ Styles defending his championship.  But unlike most times, Styles will defend his title in a handicap match against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

Owens and Zayn have developed into the two top heels on SmackDown in their feud with commissioner Shane McMahon.  But since being entangled in a feud with Shane O’Mac, Owens and Zayn have entered the WWE Championship picture thanks in large part due to GM Daniel Bryan.

Bryan and Shane’s disagreements over the past few weeks have directly led to this match that heavily stacks the deck against The Phenomenal One.  Having either KO or Zayn as WWE Champion would be pretty awesome, but is that time now?  They are among the best superstars in the WWE and deserve to be champion at some point, but now is not that time.

Styles needs to retain his championship for the simple reason of solidifying the possibility for a huge match with Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34.  Styles could realistically win the title back leading into WrestleMania, but to keep it safe, the WWE should just have him retain at the Royal Rumble.  Not to mention, a Styles win could greatly benefit Owens and Zayn’s feud against Shane O’Mac.

The WWE Champion will need to be phenomenal to retain his title against two challengers, but if anybody is up for the task, it’s The Phenomenal One.
