5. What awaits 205 Live for the rest of 2018?
As announced in a video from WWE.com, SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan announced that 205 Live will have a new General Manager. Moreover, his first task would be to address the vacant Cruiserweight title picture. Seeing as how all of this has developed rather out of the blue, one can’t help but be curious about who the new GM could be.
WWE has a plethora of options here to play with. It could be a former Cruiserweight legend who is returning. It could be Brian Kendrick who has been injured recently. Creative can even bring back the anonymous GM angle. However, it remains to be seen how long WWE will remain committed to the experiment called 205 Live. The show lacks no talent. But there has been very little effort from the creative to raise interest in the product by way of good storylines and characters. Neville was one of the reasons. He seems to be done with the company as of now.
Enzo Amore was supposed to be the link between casual fans and this product. But he has been released. Moreover, with the release of Rich Swann too, the division seems to be taking more and more hits. Could the company eventually pull the plug on this experiment? Apart from Drew Gulak, there is no other performer who seems to be doing even the slightest of character work. Needless to say, it’s not because of them, but rather because of the creative team in charge. Multi-man tag matches accomplish only so much.
With so much happening within the division and the product failing to find traction, one has to worry about its future. What else awaits the division for the remainder of 2018? Will the Cruiserweights be able to survive these turbulent times?
