4. Why are there no Women’s title matches at the Royal Rumble?
The Royal Rumble is one of the big four PPVs in the WWE. 30 Superstars would attempt to put on the best performance of their lives and outlast 29 others to win the Rumble. The annual extravaganza is one of those matches that everybody looks forward to. While the superstars battle each other to determine who gets to main event WrestleMania, does the WWE champion ever sit and wait to find his new challenger? No. More often than not, he would be defending his title against another challenger.
Moreover, that challenger or the said champion, who could have lost his title, could show up at the Rumble match too. This year, the company decided to create history once more and present the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match too. Standard Rumble rules apply in this case, complete with 30 participants.
However, neither Women’s champion on both brands are scheduled to defend their titles on the said night. Why? It’s certainly not because there isn’t anybody capable of pulling double duty come Sunday. It certainly isn’t because creative has been super busy with the Women’s Rumble that they didn’t have time for the title match. The way I see it, the company, that often likes to pat itself on the back for breaking history for the sake of it, decided the Women’s Rumble match was enough representation for the division as such.
You can’t make a bigger mistake than that. For the years to come, fans will remember Sunday as the night the first Women’s Royal Rumble took place. It will be etched in history as the night when the very first Women’s Rumble winner was crowned. Where was the Champion(s) then? Backstage, watching all the action on a TV screen perhaps.
