3. How does the WWE title match at the Royal Rumble work?
The WWE title will be put on the line at the Rumble in one of the most intriguing matches on the card. AJ Styles would defend his title against both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a handicap match for the title. If Owens and Zayn win, they will then become Co-WWE champions. How this match would work needs to be seen. For starters, will Owens and Zayn both be in the ring at the same time?
Moreover, if Styles gets a pin on either one of them, does that mean he retains the title? Or will Styles needs to eliminate both of his opponents. Another intriguing question is the possibility of Triple Threat rules. If that happen, what could happen if Owens gets a pin fall over Zayn? It seems like a dumb idea on paper, seeing as how they are best friends and all. But a move like that could really bring out Owens’s or Zayn’s dark side.
Imagine a scenario where Zayn makes a deal with Bryan to have this clause inserted into the match without the knowledge of Owens. When all the smoke settles down, we will witness Zayn’s master plan to become the new WWE champion, rather than share it with Owens. So many questions need to be addressed about the title match this Sunday.
Even more questions need to be addressed regarding how the Co-champions idea would work. If one of them is pinned in a non title match, does the winner become a new number one contender? Will all the title matches under the co-champion umbrella be handicap matches or follow the free bird rule like the New Day did? It is hard to buy into creative having an answer for all these questions, which makes it easier for me to believe Styles would walk out as still the WWE champion. Perhaps Kevin Owens’s kayfabe knee injury plays into it.
