NJPW New Beginning Day 2 Grades: Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi Reunite
The Closing Angle
After the match, the biggest angle of the night occurred. After losing, Hangman Page came out and looked to challenge Jay White for the title. Omega shoved Page aside, grabbed the belt, and shoved it into Jay White’s chest, indicating he respected him. Hangman took exception to this and shoved Omega. Cody walked down to the ring and started arguing with Omega about it being Hangman’s time. Omega and Cody started shoving each other.
Marty Scurll and The Young Bucks tried to keep the peace, but Omega accidentally shoved an injured Matt Jackson to the mat, who sold his back again. The Bucks then asked what Omega was doing and left him in the ring. Scurll still tried to keep the peace and told Kenny to work it out with Cody.
Everyone left Cody and Omega in the in ring, and they appeared to resolve their problems. They went to leave the ring, and Cody grabbed Omega and hit a Cross Rhodes and drove Kenny face first into the mat. He started attacking and beating on Omega.
Scurll came out and shoved him off. Hangman Page picked him up and went to attack Omega, but Kota Ibushi ran down to the ring and made the save. Ibushi offered a handshake to Kenny, but Kenny refused. Instead, Ibushi hugged him and both men started crying. Their old tag team reunited, and the crowd cheered relentlessly as both men left the ring. Ibushi helped carry Kenny out to the back.
This was an incredible angle that will eventually lead to Kenny vs. Cody, and Kenny vs. Ibushi, but my goodness this was so awesome. This was easily one of the most emotional angles I’ve ever seen. NJPW advanced the stories of Omega, Ibushi, White, Hangman Page, The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll, and Cody in one fell swoop. Go and watch this show just for this.
