WWE: Booking Jeff Hardy as Brother Nero after his return
By Jack Clayton
The Road to WrestleMania is officially underway, and WWE is set to have some memorable feuds going into the Showcase of the Immortals.
Generally, WWE WrestleMania is known for having some of the best rivalries come to blows on the Grandest Stage. Some that come to mind include Rock/Austin, Undertaker/Michaels, and even Hogan/Savage.
However, sometimes not only is WrestleMania a place where rivalries can reach their peak. It can also be where new rivalries can begin. And with this year’s Mania card rumored to be what it is, it’s the perfect place where a new feud can start.
As of right now, Jeff Hardy is sidelined after tearing his rotator cuff in a Six-Pack Challenge on Raw back in September. Since then, his brother Matt has gone on to finally become his infamous character, “Woken Matt Hardy”, which is based on the character he made famous in TNA. Since his debut, Matt has been feuding with Bray Wyatt, with no signs of them stopping the feud anytime soon.
If Matt and Bray do in fact end up taking this feud into WrestleMania, this is the best place for Jeff to make his return, and here’s how.

Road To Wrestlemania
Since it began, it has been rather unclear as to what the feud between Woken Matt and Wyatt has been about. From what has been seen on Raw so far, it is as if the two are trying to see who’s crazier. But other than that, there hasn’t been a solid story.
That was however, until the Royal Rumble. There, Wyatt and Hardy seemed to briefly team up before eliminating each other. The Raw afterwards, Wyatt then cost Hardy a chance at competing in the Elimination Chamber. So by the looks of it, this feud isn’t letting up anytime soon.
Due to the limitations of Raw, we have yet to see just how insane these two can be against each other. But Wrestlemania is where we can finally see it happen.
What’s most important though is that we see Hardy the most dominant throughout the match. His style of fighting is not something that Wyatt is used to. And while Wyatt does manage to get in a few hits, Hardy manages to keep overtaking through mind-games.
But the finish of the match is what really counts. Somehow, going into the finish, the referee gets knocked out. Hardy and Wyatt see this, and are set to brawl it out in the ring. But right as they are set to go, Jeff Hardy’s music hits, and he runs down to the ring.
Jeff gets into the ring alongside his brother, and looks to help him. But in a twist of fate – pun intended – Jeff hist his finisher on Matt, and follows up with a Swanton Bomb. As the ref comes to, Jeff flees from the ring. And just for good measure, Wyatt hits Matt with a Sister Abigail, and picks up the victory.

Why This Is Important
Booking this match to happen like so is important for a few different reasons. For one, it would allow Bray to finally pick up a win at WrestleMania. In the last three WrestleManias he has competed in Wyatt has yet to pick up a win. Even for the WWE Championship did he come up short against Randy Orton.
Giving Wyatt a win in this scenario would not only give him the win he deserves at Wrestlemania. This would also be killing two birds with one stone. Because Wyatt’s only real purpose here is to transition Matt from one feud to another. That feud of course being Hardy vs. Hardy.
Now admittedly, the Hardys facing each other is no new concept. The brothers have had feuds in both WWE and TNA, with the latter involving Matt’s Broken persona. But by bringing this feud back, it combines what made their two other feuds notable: the story of brother versus brother, and the Broken Brilliance of the Hardys.

Road To Summerslam
Since Jeff’s return and confrontation with Matt would take place at WrestleMania, the next best option would to have the two feud throughout the summer. Throughout the summer, the two will be a thorn in each other’s sides, whether it be costing each other matches, or possibly playing a part in Money in the Bank. But the most important thing is that the final confrontation comes at SummerSlam.
Now of course, there has to be a story for all of this. While Jeff won’t necessarily be a heel in this situation, he will be more of the antagonist to Matt’s protagonist. The story would be that while on the bench for the past few months, Jeff has been watching as Matt goes down this path of insanity.
In that time, he has been worried about his brother, and has sought to try to get the old Matt back. Matt on the other hand, wants to try to unleash the entity that is Brother Nero from Jeff. He is convinced that Brother Nero was once a thing in the past, and can be a thing again.
In doing so, both brothers end up sabotaging each other from claiming victory throughout the summer. To be more specific, Matt, in trying to get Brother Nero to unleash, stops Jeff from once again winning the Intercontinental Championship. Similarly, both brothers can play a part in the Money in the Bank match, and can be the real thing to light the spark in this feud.
As for Summerslam, the match will need to be big enough to culminate the end of this feud. As far as the stipulation goes, they could make it an Extreme Rules match. This way, the two brothers can reign absolute chaos on each other. But if WWE really wanted to get the Broken Hardys right, then the best thing to do would have some sort of “Final Deletion” match.
Admittedly, it would be nowhere on the same level as their match was in TNA. But it would make for a fun and new addition to the SummerSlam card. Not only that, but with full rights of the character given to Matt Hardy, he can go anywhere and everywhere he wants with what the character does.
In the end, the match would conclude with Matt claiming victory. This does two things. It not only solidifies Broken Matt Hardy as a strong character in WWE. It also opens up the doorway for Jeff to officially become Brother Nero. From there, the two can officially become the Broken Hardys and go on to win more tag team titles.

With Jeff’s return on the horizon, something big needs to happen with his character. And with Matt finally able to wield his Broken persona, this seems the best way to go. Just as it was in TNA, the Broken Hardys angle would print loads of money for WWE. And if WWE were to go ahead with an angle similar to this, would be absolutely DELIGHTFUL.
