4. New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) vs. Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin

New Day is great. Gable and Benjamin are great. Everyone loves pancakes. But this segment and match had no reason to exist other than to fill time. Seriously, these two teams fought over pancakes.

This segment/match “earned” the fourth spot because of the match quality. These two teams work well together and they turned in another great showing, but it just felt pointless. Benjamin and Gable lost two straight falls to the Usos at the Royal Rumble, so they aren’t viable title contenders right now. I have no idea what New Day’s goals are. Do they want to be tag team champions? Are they auditioning for a Food Network show (I would watch every hypothetical episode)? What is their purpose?

As silly as they were, Benjamin and Gable also had their moments. Gable’s “shoosh” line always makes me chuckle and I like the duo’s “hating the other goofy teams” gimmick (while ignoring their failed tag team title pursuits). Gable might also be the first wrestler to disparage pancakes for cheap heat.

New Day’s ring gear was the other highlight of this segment for two reasons. One, they were straight fire. Second, they got me more hyped for Black Panther,  movie that I guarantee is much better written and has more character development than WWE.

The match was good, I just wish there was something more at stake than tasty breakfast food.
