AJ Styles Addresses Fastlane
Before Renee Young can ask about how AJ Styles feels about defending the WWE Championship agains four other men at Fastlane, the crowd starts chanting “AJ Styles!”. And then they start chanting “Too Sweet!” Yup, this is the House That AJ Styles Built!
Styles says he’s still in control of his destiny, adding that even though it sounds cocky that he’s confident he can beat anyone he steps into the ring with, he backs it up every night.
AJ gives Renee a tour of ringside, stating that the steel steps look “tailor made” for Sami Zayn. But he says that at any moment he’s occupied elsewhere, someone like Dolph Ziggler could be going in the pin, causing AJ to lose his championship.
Styles puts over all of his competitors, and just as he’s about to mention Baron Corbin, The Lone Wolf’s music hits. Corbin reminds AJ that he’s beaten him twice for the United States Championship, and Corbin believes that he has Styles’s number.
Kevin Owens decides to get involved and starts talking trash about both Corbin and Styles. Then he starts talking about Shane McMahon’s “vendetta”, so Shane comes on out. Worth noting: A few people boo’d him!
He starts blabbering about how we need action and not talk. He puts Corbin in the main event against Styles. Shane puts Owens in a match against Ziggler, and that match is next!
Grade: C-
Really boring, and the lines written for Styles were laughable. Calling Sami Zayn a boil? Really? I mean, all of these guys basically said the same lines they’ve been given for months, and it’s hard to care about anything beyond the WWE Championship match itself. You know, if only the people on SmackDown Live actually knew how to write good television. But on the bright side, Styles vs. Corbin and especially Owens vs. Ziggler (barring Zayn interference!) should be great matches. Recall that Ziggler and Owens had a kick-ass rivalry a few years ago.
