Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens
Result: Owens Wins With A Superkick
Grade: B
Well, this was a typical Dolph Ziggler match with a lot of dropkicks and selling. He sold a ring apron bump, turnbuckle spot, a cannonball, and did a few other cooler things. But to me, the coolest thing was that he countered two vertical suplex attempts from Owens before hitting KO with a vertical suplex of his own. That showed off Dolph’s strength, and it’s a glimpse that maybe WWE is willing to pretend that they care about booking the Show-off well during matches.
Oh, and I popped when Dolph put KO in the “Sleeper Hold” briefly. KO was so desperate to get out of the Sleeper Hold that he threw himself out of the ring with Dolph. Owens then reminded me that he probably has my favorite sell of Ziggler’s jumping Satellite DDT.
The match is starting to pick up, and the crowd is really into it. But guess who comes out? YEP, that coward Sami Zayn, who lets Owens nail Ziggler with a superkick to the back of the head. And that’s the finish of this match. It’s a brutal way for Ziggler to lose, since you rarely see superkicks to the back of the head.
I wonder if Ziggler will get his revenge on Zayn for that one, because he was building some momentum in this match before the interference.
