WWE: Charlotte Flair Teases Match Against Asuka at WrestleMania 34

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair wants a match against the undefeated recking machine, known as Asuka, at WrestleMania 34.

So far WWE have been very quiet on who Asuka is facing at WrestleMania. Asuka’s noncommittal promos have been one way for WWE to evade such questioning, with the ‘Empress of Tomorrow’ making sure not to mention specifically her opponent. And to WWE’s credit, it’s working in building up anticipation.

The storyline heading into the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ is that Alexa Bliss is keeping hold of her title by any means necessary, avoiding everyone, and trying to suck up to any formidable challenger. Everyone is expecting Asuka to eventually change Bliss and triumph against the ‘chicken-[bleep] heel’.

But my guess – and the match I’m more fond of seeing – is not one that pits Asuka against Bliss, but rather against Charlotte.

Charlotte against Asuka is the money match out of the two options. The narrative of Bliss playing the whiny, arrogant champion – only to be put against a dominant force like Asuka – is a strong enough story, but does anyone realistically think Bliss could beat Asuka? To steal a line from McMahon’s theme song, “No chance!”

Which is why Charlotte, who was previously undefeated in PPVs and is a much bigger threat to Asuka than Bliss could ever be, makes for a better opponent against the submission specialist. Yes, it means Asuka will be taken off the red brand, however, with the way she’s been booked, it makes complete sense. She’s been through almost every women’s Superstar on the Raw roster, so the transition makes sense at this point.

And by the looks of things, Charlotte looks to be up for the challenge. During an interview on ‘Conversations with Maria Menounos‘, Charlotte said:

"“I want to wrestle Asuka, I want to break her streak. We’ve never faced each other, never been in a multi-woman match. I feel her coming from Japan and having her own legacy, and coming from a completely different culture, and then my background, I think it’s definitely a WrestleMania moment. So that’s who I would like to face.”"

Is this Charlotte’s way of leaving a red herring? Maybe. But more likely, it’s Charlotte way of teasing the fans and foreshadowing the match down the line, at WrestleMania 34.
