WWE WrestleMania 34: Sasha Banks vs. Bayley…With A Twist

The timing is right for the next edition in the feud between Sasha Banks and Bayley; but perhaps it’s time to give it to us with the twist of Bayley being the heel.

There is a wealth of talent up and down the WWE women’s roster. One thing is clearly true, that Sasha Banks and Bayley stand out as two of the most talented amongst the group. The idea of a feud between the “Boss” and “Hugger” looks more possible every day. WWE Creative should unleash the two on each other to create a women’s feud unseen since the days of Trish and Lita. Pitting them against each other with a payoff at WrestleMania has the potential to steal the show in more ways than one.

Mix any of the Four Horsewoman and the potential for a special match immediately skyrockets. But there’s something even more compelling about the pairing of Bayley and Sasha. They proved it back at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn and NXT Takeover: Respect. At both events they helped raise the bar of what’s expected from women’s matches in the future, and they’ve continued that trend since joining the main roster.

But, there is room for an adjustment that many wouldn’t see coming. Banks has long played the heel, many believing it to be her best character. Yet, imagine if the WWE hit the viewership with another angle that involved Bayley turning heel on a baby face Sasha; creating an entirely new dynamic that hasn’t been experienced to this point.

It would be interesting to see how and if Bayley could play the heel. When she was originally brought to the main roster back in 2016 her character was expected to become the female version of John Cena; someone that children would immediately get behind as a role model of sorts. Unfortunately, that didn’t occur and Bayley swiftly fell down the pecking order of the women’s roster. Turning her heel gives her character a fresh look and could potentially reenergize interest in her within the fan base.

However, this needs to be a slow build to a match a WrestleMania. Sasha Banks and Bayley have already proved they can put on an excellent match when given the time to develop the storyline and create within the ring. While a main event slot on Raw would be something, it doesn’t give these two athletes the justice that this storyline would deserve. With a little more than one month until WrestleMania 34 that creates just enough time for the creative minds within the WWE to script this feud and create the selling point to occur at Mania.

Much like Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens; Sasha Banks versus Bayley is a pairing that can last throughout a generation. These two ladies have the potential to develop a feud unlike anything seen within the women’s division to date. As they continue to develop in their craft, their matches will only improve over time. But there’s going to be the need to keep things fresh and interesting. WWE fans have already seen how these two work together when Sasha is the heel so giving them the twist of Bayley working the dark side is the touch that could push this initial feud in a new direction.

It’s clear that Sasha Banks and Bayley are headed for an extended program together. With Asuka, Ronda Rousey, Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax taking up a large amount of television time, this is the perfect time to engulf these two in a feud that matters. In many ways the other women should be concerned because a well-timed match between Sasha and Bayley could easily steal the spotlight from the others; especially if there are wrinkles to make this an intriguing and original storyline.
