In case you didn’t know, the women’s revolution of wrestling isn’t just happening in the WWE. The effects of how WWE has presented their female superstars is beginning to percolate throughout other promotions. Now, Ring of Honor will be following suit and crowning their first ever Women’s Champion. But who should win?

Okay, I am going to cut right to the chase. With all due respect to the other women, Tenille Dashwood should absolutely win the Women of Honor Championship Tournament. That’s not to say that the tournament isn’t ripe with talent. Oh contraire, there are a number of amazing and decorated athletes. Many of who have more experience, championships, and accolades to their names than Tenille Dashwood. So why is she so clearly deserving to be crowned the first-ever Women of Honor Champion? Well, she’s the one that started the women’s revolution.

During the end of her run in the WWE, Tenille Dashwood, then known as Emma, began reminding everyone that she started the women’s revolution. That’s not an empty boast either. Before the Four Horsewomen, Emma and Paige were tearing it up in NXT’s women’s division. In fact, their classic for the NXT women’s championship could be considered the catalyst for the entire movement. Now Dashwood is doing the same on the independents.

Not only is she influential, but she’s a draw. Tenille Dashwood is arguably the most notable name within the tournament.  ROH was able to make headlines for including her in the bracket. By having Tenille Dashwood go over in the tournament, ROH may be able to capture an audience base that hasn’t been paying attention to their product. In fact, parallels can be made to Cody Rhodes, who left WWE to become a world champion in a different promotion. Dashwood may not have the backing of the extremely lucrative Bullet Club to get her over with the ROH crowd, but her story alone is enough to put butts in the seats.

With her drawing power and influence, Dashwood will be able to bring the most important thing to ROH’s budding women’s division – legitimacy. ROH has an image problem when it comes to women’s wrestling, namely that it’s rarely shown and even more rarely important. ROH is only now finally starting to catch up to the changing landscape of professional wrestling. Dashwood could be the pillar that ROH builds the division around for years to come.

Maybe it’s serendipitous that after failing to be crowned the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion, Dashwood now finds herself competing to be become the first-ever Women of Honor Champion.  ROH would be remiss if they passed on the opportunity to crown a woman who is so influential in the women’s revolution champion.
