WWE Fastlane 2018: Why The New Day Should Win
At WWE Fastlane 2018, the New Day and the Usos will write the next chapter in their historic rivalry, and here’s why the trio of Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods should score the win.
Last year at WWE WrestleMania 33, the New Day didn’t have a match. They were the hosts in Orlando and did a great job in that role, even teasing the crowd that they would enter the Raw Tag Team Title Ladder Match before announcing that the Hardy Boyz would be surprise participants.
Meanwhile, the Usos have never had a match on the WrestleMania main card, and it’s obvious that this should change at WrestleMania 34. Although the New Day, the Bar, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin, and whichever tag team Seth Rollins is ever a part of are all excellent, the Usos are truly the WWE’s best tag team.
Boasting entertaining or classic matches against virtually all of their opponents, the Usos are in the midst of a historic run on SmackDown Live. Many of their great matches have come against the New Day, as you can see in this list of the top 10 matches in the Usos’ careers that was compiled by colleague Joe Hulbert.
At Fastlane 2018, the New Day and the Usos will undoubtedly put together another classic worthy of high praise. And while it would be nice to see the Usos enter WrestleMania as the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, where would a loss leave the New Day?

You see, if the Usos lose, they can still be on the WrestleMania card, simply invoking their rematch clause to the titles. But if the New Day lose, what do they do? It’s hard to see them being left off the WrestleMania main card for a second year in a row, and there aren’t many other options for them.
Now, they don’t necessarily need to be in a match, because everyone knows that they are a big deal. But it would make sense for one of the WWE’s most popular acts to be in a marquee matchup at WrestleMania.
Lately, we haven’t seen much of the Bludgeon Brothers. The latest menacing tag team on SmackDown Live spent time squashing the Ascension and the Fashion Police, and they are fully expected to get their first crack at the Usos’ SmackDown Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania.
It would be easier for the WWE to put them in a title match that is a Triple Threat tag match, simply because it would add another dynamic to the match and would avoid a bit of a booking conundrum. Because the WWE has made the Bludgeon Brothers look so dominant, a match involving Harper and Rowan would be more entertaining if there’s a third team in there, just to make it easier to envision them having to grind it out.
Furthermore, Triple Threats are an easy way to get as many top talents on the WrestleMania card as possible, and they make sense if all of the competitors have legitimate cases for being in the match.
If the New Day lose to the Usos at Fastlane, what’s their case? That they can’t crack the red-hot Usos? The Usos will either be the champions or have a rematch clause, so they’re in whether they win or lose. Meanwhile, the Bludgeon Brothers have an air-tight case, because they’ve been so dominant and have yet to receive their shot at the Tag Titles.
I wouldn’t exactly be upset if the Usos win (Harper and Rowan have incredible chemistry with Jimmy and Jey), or if the WWE decides they want to set up a Triple Threat at WrestleMania by having the Bludgeon Brothers interfere. After all, Harper and Rowan have been playing along awfully nicely, biding their time while the Usos hold the titles without so much as a challenge from the hammer-wielding duo.

However, it would be smoother if the New Day asserted themselves with a surprising win over the Usos, setting up a bigger WrestleMania match that could help these two tag teams obtain their biggest show-stealing performance to date with Harper and Rowan involved.
