WWE WrestleMania 34: Asuka Appears at Fastlane, Challenges Charlotte Flair

After several weeks, Asuka has finally made her decision for WWE WrestleMania 34. At Fastlane, she issued a challenge to SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.

Ever since the Royal Rumble ended, the WWE Universe has been wondering just who Women’s Rumble winner Asuka would face at WWE WrestleMania 34. Before she could announce her decision at the Rumble, Asuka was interrupted by Ronda Rousey. Since then, it’s been widely assumed, but never confirmed, that Asuka would face Alexa Bliss – or whoever the Raw Women’s Champion was – in New Orleans.

At WWE Fastlane, all that changed. Following Charlotte Flair’s hard-fought victory over Ruby Riott to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship, The Empress of Tomorrow shocked the crowd by making her way to the ring. Once there, no words were exchanged, merely a point at the WrestleMania sign. Even unspoken, the intent was clear – Asuka wants Charlotte at Mania.

From a fan’s standpoint, it’s the money match for the entire WWE women’s division. Asuka is the unstoppable force. She’s riding an undefeated streak of over two years. It’s very rare that she’s even been in danger of losing during her WWE career. And she outlasted 29 other superstars to win the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match.

But Charlotte is not without her own accolades. She’s a four-time Raw Women’s Champion, a former Divas Champion, and the current SmackDown Women’s Champion. Charlotte also won her first 16 singles matches on pay per view – not a bad streak in her own right. Oh, and she was also one of the participants in the first women’s match to ever main event a WWE pay per view.

With these two powerhouses of the WWE Women’s Division likely to clash at WrestleMania, it sets up a great match. It also opens up several questions – is Asuka abandoning the Raw roster to challenge Charlotte? Did Shane McMahon send anyone over to Raw in exchange for Asuka, or will he now that she’s there? What’s the plan for Alexa Bliss and the Raw Women’s Championship now?

Regardless of anything else that may happen, Asuka vs. Charlotte is bound to be one of the most exciting matches in recent history. Putting “the streak” against “The Queen” is too good an opportunity to pass up, and WWE is wise to jump on it. Strike while the iron’s hot – and it doesn’t get much hotter than this.
