3. Tag Team Title Match: The Usos (c) vs The New Day
In September of 2016, long time baby faces, The Usos, viciously attacked Jason Jordan and Chad Gable of American Alpha, turning heel for the first time in nearly five years. The new found aggression paid almost immediate dividends as the brothers snatched up their third WWE tag championship just six months later. About three months after that, The Usos would first run into The New Day, a group that eventually would turn into their biggest rival. Over the course of the next four months, the two teams traded the belts back and twice, put on a series of incredible matches, and produced one of the greatest tag team rivalries in WWE history.
So now just a few months into 2018 and with The Usos steamrolling the majority of the rest of the blue brand’s tag division, the former foes found their way to each other again, this time at Fastlane. And for nine minutes, it looked like it was going to be yet another brilliant chapter in the legacy of this feud. But The Bludgeon Brothers would have none of it. Rowan and Harper, two of the most underrated talents in the company, stormed ringside and laid waste to all five members of the match. It was about as vicious as any attack in recent memory.
This match, although short in nature, was extremely productive. The Usos and The New Day proved that their chemistry is alive and well, meaning that they very well may stick together in the title picture no matter where it goes. But it also introduced a new team as a major, potential threat. Rowan and Harper have been waiting in the wings for this opportunity and will undoubtedly make it count where and when they get the opportunity. A really strong segment all around.
